Municipal Court cases involve class "C" misdemeanors such as:
Traffic Violations- includes moving and non-moving violations, failure to maintain financial responsibility (no insurance), driver’s license violations, equipment violations, etc.
Parking Violations- includes parking violations under city ordinance or the Transportation Code of the State of Texas.
State Code Violations- Class “C” misdemeanors (crimes punishable by a maximum fine of $500) include: public intoxication, theft under $50, disorderly conduct, assault by contact, minors in possession of alcohol/tobacco, etc.
Violations of City Ordinance- includes violations of animal violations, rubbish/weeds at residence, junk vehicles, plumbing codes, building codes, health and safety violations, park violations, etc.
The plea you enter is very important so please consider each plea carefully before making a decision. You may enter your plea in person or in writing.
Not Guilty Plea: A plea of not guilty means you are informing the Court that you are not guilty or deny guilty of the offense in which you were accused. You must enter not guilty by the appearance date located on the bottom of the green citation. You must inform the Court whether you want a trial by judge or jury. Upon receipt of your plea, your case will be scheduled on the pretrial docket. At this docket, you will be able to speak with the prosecutor who will discuss with you the nature of your case. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO APPEAR IN PERSON OR BY ATTORNEY.
Guilty Plea: A plea of guilty means that you admit you committed the charged offense and you are waiving your right to a trial by judge or jury.
Nolo Contendere (No Contest) Plea: A plea of nolo contendere (no contest) means that you do not contest the charges against you and you are waiving your right to a trial by judge or jury.
